Adhesively bonded joints of jute, glass and hybrid jute/glass fibre-reinforced polymer composites for automotive industry

Abstract Natural fibre-reinforced composites have attracted a great deal of attention by the automotive industry mainly due to their sustainable characteristics and low cost. The use is expected continuously increase in this area as cost weight vehicles could be partially reduced replacing glass fibre aluminium with natural composites. Adhesive bonding preferred joining method for increasingly used industry. However, literature on reinforced polymer composite adhesive joints scarce needs further investigation. main objective study was investigate experimentally adhesively bonded made natural, synthetic interlaminar hybrid effect number layers required order match joint efficiency fully GFRP studied. It found that failure load jute/glass adherend increased increasing external (i.e. 3-layer 28.6% compared 2-layer joint) reached pure adherends optimum compromise between material property stiffness strength) diminished bondline peel stress state.
